No matter the outcome of the healthcare reform legislation slowly working its way through Washington, everyone involved in the business of healthcare is going to be challenged to do more with less. I am increasingly convinced that, in order to meet our nation’s healthcare needs, it is imperative that we reduce the complexity and cost of the systems that deliver our care.

Breast Healthcare and Research – What’s New?

As this issue of LQI goes to press, exciting news was announced from Stockholm that a renowned trio of researchers, including Elizabeth Blackburn, BSc, MSc, PhD from the University of California – San Francisco, won the 2009 Nobel Prize in Medicine. These scientists discovered how chromosomes, which carry DNA, protect themselves from degrading when cells divide. This insight has inspired new directions in cancer research and therapy. Other exciting approaches have also evolved over the past year, reflecting the same perseverance and passion for changing the status quo.
