History
For more than 25 years, Lumetra has been an independent, non-profit organization headquartered in California. Our mission evolved from monitoring care for Medicare beneficiaries by conducting utilization review to improving the quality of services across the healthcare continuum. We held the designation as Medicare’s Quality Improvement Organization for California from October 1984 until November 2008.
Our lengthy experience in healthcare quality and efficiency provided us with the skills, expertise, and tools that have enabled Lumetra to find dynamic solutions to the business problems that face our customers.
In 2003, the organization created its first wholly-owned subsidiary, IntegriGuard, an ISO-certified and URAC-accredited organization devoted to the prevention and detection of fraud, waste, and abuse in the healthcare system. In September 2009 Lumetra sold IntegriGuard to HMS (NASDAQ: HMSY).
In 2007 Illumisys, LLC was established to provide health information technology (HIT) innovation through system implementation, consulting, education, and training. Illumisys’ staff, contracts, and clients were fully merged into the parent organization in December 2008.
The Lumetra PSO , an division of Lumetra, was awarded the designation of Patient Safety Organization in January 2009 by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005. The Act encourages clinicians and healthcare organizations to report and share — voluntarily — data on patient safety events without fear of legal discovery.
Today Lumetra solves healthcare business problems with an integrated clinical, analytical, and technological solution that reduce complexity and costs while improving patient outcomes. Our consultants understand how to identify and solve problems at their root and implement lasting changes throughout the continuum of care.
Lumetra is committed to the highest standards for business practices, governance, and public accountability. Our Board supports greater transparency in the healthcare system as well as our own achievements in contributing to measurable improvement in quality healthcare.
Lumetra is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt, nonprofit 501(c)(6) entity, organized as a mutual benefit corporation.
